Tarawera Cafe is ‘the’ landmark for most regular drivers on SH5 and a welcome oasis for travellers, catering for them in so many ways. With an annual gross profit of $290,000 this is terrific opportunity for an investor and tenant, or owner-occupiers alike.
A century ago and even earlier, this was the site of the nationally renown Tarawera Hot Springs Hotel – an imposing two-storey THC-style tourist hotel that featured in many international publications. The original hotel burnt down in the 1960’s and the hot spring pools, on neighbouring land, were closed in recent years. There is a belief however that geothermal hot water may be available on this property but we have no proof of that at this stage.
The cafe itself reflects the overall presentation of the entire property, smart, tidy, very well maintained and exuding obvious further potential. The overall attractiveness of the site has just been enhanced by Waka Kotahi’s new wider entrance project and safety improvements on the highway both east and west of the entrance.
In addition to the cafe there are five standalone accommodation facilities including the owner’s two-bedroom house. Free overnight parking for multiple campers and caravans is encouraged in the sealed carpark and a toilet block is provided. For campers seeking a longer stay there are seven grassed powered sites within the securely fenced area. Here there is also a shared kitchen and toilet block.
Tender closes Tuesday 25th January 2022 at 12:00pm (unless sold prior)
